Specialty cheese is a cheese that isn’t regularly made and only has a limited run of production. They’re often made with interesting ingredients such as nuts, fruits, herbs, and spices to create interesting flavours.

While Specialty cheeses don’t have long runs of production, they are made fairly often, so they are easy to come by and you’ll always have something new to try. It also means you have an excuse to regularly buy new cheeses. If you ever needed an excuse, that is.

When could you bring out a Specialty cheese?

Everybody likes a party, it’s a great way of catching up with old friends, making new friends and celebrating any number of occasions, but it can be difficult to decide on what party food to have. At the very least there are the staples, sausage rolls, crisps, carrot sticks and dip, and the cheese plate. It’s a little-known fact that it can’t be considered a party unless there’s a cheese plate. A Specialty cheese would sit brilliantly on a cheese plate at a party and make for a wonderful conversation piece, “I’ve never had a cheese like this before”, “no, and you may never again”.

As well as a cheese plate it should go without saying that Specialty cheeses are a welcome addition to any cheese board as the perfect way to finish off your meal. Building upon a cheeseboard, if you’re starting your meal with a charcuterie, then there’s another great opportunity to present your Specialty cheese, gone are the days of charcuterie being made up solely of cold cuts, you’re now more than welcome to include your favourite cheese.
