When a person suffers a concussion, concussion recovery is vital to ensuring the person does not suffer lingering effects from the concussion. Learn exactly what concussion recovery is and what steps need to be taken to ensure a full concussion recovery below.

What Exactly is a Concussion?

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that usually results from a bump, jolt, or blow to the head. This injury can also occur if a person’s body is hit and the head and brain rapidly move back and forth. This can cause the brain to bounce around or even twist within the skull, resulting in chemical changes within the brain and even potentially stretching or damaging brain cells.

How To Achieve Full Recovery From This Injury

In order to achieve full recovery from this type of injury, it is very important to get plenty of rest and to strictly follow your doctor’s recommendations and advice. Failure to do so will result in a longer recovery period; even by following the doctor’s advice, you will usually need 7 to 10 days of recovery time in order to potentially fully recover from this type of injury.

Thus, you should avoid sudden movements of your head and neck. This also means you should avoid heavy exercising and weight lifting; you can potentially do light workouts such as walking if you feel up to it. You should also avoid too much screen time, particularly before bed. Thus, limit the amount of time you watch television and reading from PCs/laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and other screens.

Finally, be sure to avoid loud sounds and bright lights, as you will be more sensitive to them after your concussion. Give yourself a few days away from large crowds and fluorescent lighting to help your body heal and ensure you do not develop further complications from your injury.
