Family and friends are an important part of your past, present and future. They can also play a positive role in all stages or steps of your treatment. In fact, a family and friends can be very helpful resources for finding the right treatment. This is only true, however, if the client has a good relationship with them. Otherwise, they may not be able to play a role in the client’s Malibu drug treatment.
What Are the Roles of Friends and Family in Drug Treatment?
Family and friends can play two major roles in a Malibu drug treatment program. They can be:
- Sources of information
- Provide support
As noted above, both groups can be a source of information that may prove to be invaluable in preparing a treatment plan. They do offer a different perspective or perspectives to the situation. Moreover, this may be the family the addict returns to after the program ends. These are the individuals to which the client may turn to during the program. As such, it is important that they understand, at the very least, what is happening. To this end, a Malibu drug treatment plan may involve not only the drug user but also certain members of his or her family and even friends.
Types of Family Treatment
At a Malibu drug facility, the first rule of involving family and friends in a client’s program is simple. Do not do so unless the client gives his or her express permission. If this is granted, it is then safe to involve the family and/or friends, in the treatment program, including them receiving some “treatment” of their own. This can take any of several forms including therapy or supportive workshops, sessions and/or counselling.
These encounters may occur with the client or apart. It depends upon the decision made by and the approach of the specific Malibu drug treatment center. The treatment may, however, consist of any of the following:

On the other hand, they may happen only at the beginning or end of the program or take place for a single day or weekend with educational events taking place the entire time.

If the client is amicable, family members may be included as part of the treatment. They may, in fact, undergo some form of therapy or social-education program in order to come to grips and fully understand what is happening. However, as is the case with family dynamics around the world, not everyone has a supportive and caring family. If this is the case, and the client agrees, the Malibu drug treatment center will not involve them.
