A computer is used to perform various functions such as word processing or mathematical computations and then store the results inside the computer on the hard drive. When an individual buys a new computer there is always a need to transfer certain files from the old computer which is about to be retired to the new unit. Most users will certainly want to keep all their digital photos and music collection but there may also be a need to transfer e-mail settings, the email contact list, the list of browser favorites, software configurations, etc. It is not a difficult problem when there are only small amounts of data to be transferred, this can be done by burning a data DVD, using a compact flash drive or even e-mail it to yourself. For huge amounts of date however, the solution lies with bulk cable, hooking the computers to one another with Ethernet cable.

Most e-mail providers offer their accounts a significant amount of space for their use. For users who have a high speed connection to the internet, there is often sufficient space on the e-mail server to handle all the files. When high speed and space is available, the simple solution is to mail the files to yourself and open them on the new computer.

If the internet speed is lacking or the amount of data is in excess of the e-mail space you have been allotted, then burning a CD or DVD is a good idea. The nice thing about transferring files in this manner is that you also end up with a backup copy of the files.

A portable hard drive is ideal for transferring files between computers. As the data resides on the external drive, transferring it is as simple as disconnecting the USB cable from one computer and plugging it in to the other. The files can then be instantly transferred to the new computers directory.

These solutions are best when the computers are not located close to one another but when the computers are in the same location, Ethernet cable can be used for the data transfer. To transfer the data in this fashion you will need a switch, router or hub but if you do not have one of these devices a bulk cable crossover will work.

To avoid transferring any malicious software, spyware, etc to the new machine, always run a virus scan.
If you are a computer specialist or an audio-visual professional you will want to purchase bulk cable which can be made up to compliment the installation. Buy a wide selection of bulk cable from.
