If you’re planning tent camping in San Diego, you should know a few things. Tents can be great for families who don’t want to spend money on an RV but want the experience of camping in nature. San Diego is known for its unpredictable weather, so tent camping isn’t always enjoyable. Here’s what you need to know about how to enjoy a fun night under the stars.

Be Prepared

  • Be aware of the weather forecast.
  • Bring extra layers, rain gear, and a flashlight.
  • Pack a first aid kit.

Bring Along Food

Bring a cooler and plenty of food. Camping is all about roughing it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring along some comforts from home. Take advantage of the convenience store at the campsite and pick up some snacks and drinks. Bring a bag full of their favorite treats if you’re camping with kids! Eat before arriving at the campsite if possible. Plenty of places sell food around most campgrounds, but there’s no guarantee those places will be open late or early in the morning when you need them.

Take Plenty of Water

The first thing you should know before heading out on your camping trip is that it will be hot. Tent camping in San Diego means dealing with the summer heat, so bring lots of water with you. You can buy beverages at campgrounds or refill water containers. Bring a lot of bottled water or gallon jugs from home.
