It’s not always easy to figure out what’s wrong with your pets. Most pet owners rely on signs to determine if their pets are not feeling well. If you encounter any of the following, your pet might need emergency care. Bring your pet over to the vet right away.
Signs to Watch Out for
- Animal is in obvious pain
- Loss of balance
- Blood in diarrhea
- Seizures
- Bleeding
- Staggering or stumbling
- Inflammation
- Inability to urinate or defecate
- Bloated, painful, or swollen abdomen
- Difficulty breathing
Basic First Aid You Should Know
While it’s important that you bring your dog or cat to a trusted veterinary hospital in Los Angeles right away, performing first aid can stabilize your pet and give it a better chance for survival.
- Stop the Bleeding. Place a clean gauze over the injury and apply pressure to staunch the bleeding. Muzzle your pet before you begin, since animals in pain tend to bite.
- Deal with a Seizure. Clear space for your pet. Don’t restrain the animal. Just make sure the pet is warm and on a bed. Take the pet immediately to the nearest vet.
- Fractured Bone. Muzzle the pet and lay them on a flat surface that can work as a stretcher. Transport the pet. It’s better if you secure your pet to the stretcher, though, if that will prevent putting any pressure on the injured area.
- Poison. This is often difficult to detect as some poisons take days before they take a toll on your pet’s health. Upon ingesting the poison, they might still be healthy enough to run around or eat without any problems. What you can do is check for the slightest sign that your pet isn’t feeling well. Bring your pet to the vet if you want to make sure your furry friend is all right.
