The carat weight of a stone basically means how big the stone is. With most diamond rings the most important carat weight is of the center stone as this is often the primary showpiece in the engagement ring. However, the total carat weight in the setting of the engagement ring is also important as well.
Cut
The cut of the diamond refers to the way that the diamond was cut and not only the shape of the diamond but how it was cut inside and therefore how much it shines and sparkles. Many diamonds today are cut in a brilliant style that will make the diamond really sparkle.
Clarity

These marks are called inclusions and some are so small that they cannot be seen by the naked eye while others are much larger. Typically a diamond with SI1 clarity rating or that has marks ‘slightly included’ is considered average and you won’t want to go above this.
Color
The color of the diamond is also important H is the average color but there are much better or higher color options. Going below H will give your diamond a yellow look while going above will give help your diamond look more white in color and appearance. You will want to make sure you look at different colors of diamonds side by side to make sure you choose the right color for you.
