Although this article is aimed at residences and other premises throughout the Chicago metropolitan area (for example, the city of Lake Forest) its basis applies to anyone needing uninterrupted electricity supply just about anywhere. Effectively, that means just about all of us.

Uninterrupted Power Supply

Or UPS; which is an acronym that some of us came across in the earlier days of the computer age when it was absolutely vital that we did not lose electrical power to our computers until we had turned them off properly. The UPS was nothing more than a rechargeable battery pack which would be kept topped up all the time that it and our computer were receiving electricity from the mains supply. Should that supply fail; then, the UPS would takeover and feed its stored electricity into the computer (but, only until the battery became flat). Should this happen at night; we would be able to safely switch off the computer; but, we would have to do so in the dark since the little battery was incapable of storing enough electrical current to run anything else. Both batteries and computers have improved a lot since those days and, I suspect, few in the new generation are all that familiar with a UPS these days. Unfortunately, batteries have not evolved to such an extent that they can provide emergency power to a whole building (without being bigger than the building itself).

If You Can Not Store Enough; Why Not Make It Yourself?

The concept of generating electricity is, in itself, relatively straightforward and companies like Generac Power Systems, Inc have been manufacturing USA made generator sets for the domestic market for years. However, the simple act of going out and buying a standby generator does not guarantee you a power supply during power cuts.

But, With The Right Equipment

Some people have purchased so-called portable sets which are fine for taking with you on a wilderness camping trip but will usually be of little use in the home or office, etc. Such sets are usually stored away somewhere and not only have to be found during a power cut; they will probably need to be fueled up and then manually started and connected to the building’s wiring system. Then, if you have not practiced good generator maintenance in lake forest; they might not work anyway!

Visit Penco Electric Inc of Niles Illinois website who can advise and supply equipment suited to your building’s needs. Furthermore, they can connect it to your house and ensure that it starts up the instant a power cut is detected. As an additional safeguard, you should take out a regular maintenance program with them. Then, you will be ready for the next cut.
