In Long Island awnings are probably a very popular, yet precarious item to have in homes. As Long Island can be prone to some extremely windy weather on occasions, it is sometimes necessary to have certain precautions in place to protect any awnings attached to buildings and homes.
After the drastic effects and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, during the 2012 hurricane season over the Atlantic Ocean, many parts of the east coast were severely damaged. The hurricane started life as a non-threatening low pressure system near Jamaica and was simply classified as Tropical Depression Eighteen. Moving slowly at first it began to increase in strength and was then renamed Tropical Storm Sandy. However, as its journey continued, so did its power and threat levels. After exiting Cuban waters it hit the Bahamas, where shortly afterwards it was classified again as a hurricane. This level of destruction was last seen during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Sandy left many homes, businesses and areas in complete disarray and the coastline of New Jersey was changed forever. However, despite the damage, many people have put great deals of effort into rebuilding the Jersey Shore and in late May of 2013 it reopened for business as usual, officially opened by Governor Chris Christie, who cut the five mile long ribbon.
Damage and Repair
The people of Long Island suffered much damage along with the folks of New Jersey and many of those people lost homes and businesses. Awnings were blown out to sea, windows were torn from their structures and roofs were ripped from their homes. Companies who install, repair and maintain awnings were called out in their droves to replace, mend and repair damaged or missing awnings. People had to find good companies who would not take advantage of their misery and simply do their job with trust. Finding a good awning repair, installation or service company is largely about trust. Trust in them to do the job correctly, quickly and professionally, and without over charging the customer.
If you are looking for a good company for your awnings, simply ask about their after-care policy, their maintenance contracts, their prices and their reliability. If you know that company has a good reputation because they come highly recommended by a friend, colleague or neighbor, you will know they have a good standard of service.
