Paint brushes and rollers are both great tools for completing any DYI painting project. However, when it comes time to begin a project, deciding between brushes and rollers can mean the difference between a job getting completed the way you hope and having to completely redo the entire project. These three tips should help you decide which tool is right for your specific needs.
How Big is the Space?
When deciding between paint brushes and rollers, the first consideration should be the size of the space that you are planning on painting. Brushes work best for smaller areas, while rollers work best for larger projects. If you are painting a wall or ceiling, you might wish to use a paint roller. But corners and trim call for the use of a brush.
Do You Need Textured Strokes or Even Distribution?
Some painting jobs call for a unique textured look, and these types of projects will look best when completed with a paintbrush. For other projects, you might prioritize having a continual even distribution of the paint, and these projects will require the use of a porous paint roller. However, if you are trying to do a large space with a paint roller, you may be able to achieve more of a textured look by using rollers with thicker or fluffier rolls.
Do You Need to Use Both?
Although some projects can be completed with either a brush or a roller, many projects can benefit from using both tools. In larger projects, paint brushes can be used first to complete trimming and edge work, while rollers can be used to complete the large surfaces of the project. Using both brushes and rollers allows you to finish the DYI project as quickly and economically as possible.
