The John Deere Model D
In 1923, John Deere launched the Model D tractor. It was the company’s first -branded and marketed as such. A replacement for the Waterloo, the Model D was characterized originally by its two-cylinder engine capable of burning kerosene, gasoline or distillate as fuel. It produced 15 horsepower at the drawbar and 22 at the belt.
The system was updated in 1927 and 1930. By 1934, the two-speed transmission had been replaced by a three-speed one. The following year, rubber wheels began to supersede the previous steel ones.
The John Deere Model D was manufactured at the company’s factory in Waterloo, Iowa. 55,929 were built there from 1923 to 1949. Its replacement was the John Deere Model R.
